Inside the Experience: Are we preparing for the same future?

By Brooke Cover, Director of Client Experience

Are We Preparing for the Same Future?

The answer is likely no. Future generations will navigate a world shaped by longer lifespans, evolving family structures, and advances in technology, healthcare, and education. These changes will influence how people work, retire, care for one another, and steward family wealth.

At StrongBox Wealth, financial wellbeing extends beyond the portfolio. It considers the dimensions of life that shape financial decisions, including health, relationships, family dynamics, financial security, and legacy.

The Stanford Center on Longevity notes that longer lives are not simply extended retirements. They create more complex life courses with multiple transitions. As generations share more of life, families gain opportunities to exchange perspective, transfer knowledge, and make informed decisions together.

Rising generations are also approaching wealth differently. Bank of America reports that 32 % of married Gen Z and Millennial respondents have a prenuptial agreement, more than triple the rate of wealthy individuals overall. Inherited businesses are also projected to represent 23 % of business ownership in 2026, up from 11 % in 2024.

These examples are among several shifting perspectives that may influence the future direction of family wealth. Understanding how beneficiaries view wealth, responsibility, and their own futures can help families anticipate differences and prepare more intentionally for what lies ahead.

We bring beneficiaries into the conversation early, facilitating open, structured discussions that surface each generation’s values, priorities, and expectations before a transition occurs. We then help families turn that shared understanding into an aligned plan for how wealth is owned, protected, and ultimately passed on, bridging communication gaps so families can move forward with confidence and unity. We invite you to explore a Generational Wealth Alignment conversation with us.
